Youth programme, HeadStart joins Family Action to continue supporting young people across the country We are excited to announce that the award-winning national youth programme HeadStart is joining the charity, Family Action.
Formed in 2013 by The Challenge in partnership with the Mayor of London, HeadStart is a valuable addition to the 140 plus services already delivered by Family Action, a charity that has been supporting children, young people and families across the UK since 1869.
HeadStart is a volunteering and employability programme that supports young people across England to volunteer at least 16 hours in exchange for a guaranteed job interview. Through social action, the programme inspires and supports young people to engage in positive and meaningful interactions with people from different backgrounds within their local communities and employees from leading businesses. 11,000 young people have already volunteered more than 200,000 hours through the HeadStart programme.
David Holmes CBE, Chief Executive, Family Action said: “We are so pleased to welcome HeadStart to Family Action. HeadStart is a wonderful programme and our new colleagues bring a wealth of experience with them. We look forward to working with the HeadStart team and continue their valuable work helping thousands of young people to flourish and thrive as they begin their journey into adulthood.”
Colin Cliff, Head of Operational Design, The Challenge said: “We are delighted that the fantastic work of HeadStart will continue to go from strength to strength in 2020 and beyond. Family Action is passionate about supporting young people to reach their potential and we could not be more excited that this excellent programme will be able to maintain its ongoing impact. The work of HeadStart is vital in supporting thousands of young people each year to connect with their communities and gain skills and employment as they build their lives for the future. We look forward to the next chapter in the journey of HeadStart knowing it will be well supported and nurtured in its new home.”
HeadStart will continue to deliver their current programme in Greater London, the West Midlands, Greater Manchester and Yorkshire
